United Heritage Credit Union (UHCU) is seeking a highly motivated First Party Collector, who is dedicated to obtaining maximum impact on past due or at risk debts assigned.  The Collector is responsible for minimizing potential losses to the Credit Union by being proactive when working with members on financial solutions to reduce delinquency. 


As a Collector with UHCU you will:

  • Work an assigned account queue daily and provide assistance to reach department goals.
  • Maintain proper account documentation.
  • Contact members in all stages of delinquency and across multiple product lines through manual outbound dialing; receiving inbound collections and general servicing calls.
  • Utilize credit bureaus, legal counsel, and third parties as required.
  • Assist branch staff, lending department, and call center operations with resolving member concerns.
  • Work directly with the department manager, serving as support to fellow team members on escalated issues.
  • Use advanced knowledge of all payment plans available to members to work out complex collections scenarios and advise members on appropriate solutions.
  • Assess member needs and identify the reason for the delinquency to offer payment extensions and deferments when applicable.
  • Educate members on potential solutions to resolve delinquency; negotiating mutually satisfactory payment arrangements.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Ability to remain calm, patient, objective and professional when presented with difficult situations.
  • Experience with manual outbound dialing.
  • Excellent communication, problem resolution and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally take control of a conversation with a difficult member, as necessary.
  • Ability to negotiate payment arrangements.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively with members, co-workers and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 6 months of financial services, customer service or call center experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year of prior collection experience.
  • 1 year of banking or credit union experience.
  • Understanding of state and federal collection rules and laws.
  • Experience with skip-tracing resources.
